The following are a collection of before and after photos from several tummy tuck patients. I don’t think it is necessary to include dozens of photos when a few select patients can help demonstrate a wide range of patient concerns and surgical treatments. No two patients are alike and the choice of surgical treatment depends upon their particular concerns and needs, as well as their willingness to have more conservative or more comprehensive correction. The key is understanding between patient and physician as to what are the main concerns, what are the options for treatment, and what procedure best fits that particular patient. I hope you find these photos and comments helpful.
Case #3197 – Abdominoplasty
This patient was concerned with loose, hanging skin on her lower abdomen as well as unwanted thickness around her waistline. She also had some laxity of abdominal muscles. Liposuction alone would only address some of the fullness, but would not tighten the skin or muscles.
Case #3203 – Abdominoplasty
This patient’s main problem was laxity of her abdominal skin and stretched out abdominal muscles as a result of pregnancies. She had a small amount of excess fat around her waistline, but not much. Her tummy tuck gave her a much tighter, flatter abdomen with much better posture as well. The after photos were taken 6 months after surgery.
Case #3209 – Abdominoplasty
This patient was originally requesting liposuction for her abdomen. Although liposuction alone would have been a reasonable option, it would have left her with some loose skin above her belly button. This is why it is very important to have.
Case #3215 – Abdominoplasty
This patient was concerned mainly with loose skin and stretch marks on her tummy. As you can see she also had a rather thick waistline. A tummy tuck with liposuction around her entire waistline and tightening of her abdominal muscles.
Case #3221 – Abdominoplasty
As you can see, this patient had profound changes to her abdomen as a result of pregnancies. She gained significant weight around her waistline, her abdominal muscles were stretched out so much that when she relaxed her tummy fell forward, tilting her pelvis and putting chronic strain on her lower back. She also had stretch marks all around her abdomen. Her tummy tuck included not only liposuction around her entire waistline and tightening of her skin, but also significant repair and tightening of her abdominal muscles.
Case #3227 – Abdominoplasty
This patient lost a significant amount of weight and as a result developed loose skin around her entire waistline. In her case, she required removal of excess skin not only on her front side, but also around her back side as well. This is sometimes called a belt lipectomy. Of course her muscles were tightened as well, and liposuction was performed around her entire waistline. It may seem as though she was still heavy before her surgery, but you can see that most of the weight was in the form of excess skin, and when the skin was removed she looked much thinner.
Case #3233 – Abdominoplasty
This patient was bothered by the hanging fullness of her lower abdomen. She was definitely overweight and ideally would have needed to lose weight before having her tummy tuck. However, she was not planning on losing weight and just wanted to address the fullness in her lower abdomen, so we performed liposuction and removal of the excess skin, but did not tighten muscles. Her after photos were taken several weeks after surgery.
