Gynecomastia (male breast reduction)
Breast reduction for men is the surgical correction of over developed or enlarged breasts. Liposuction can oftentimes reduce the size and improve the contour of the chest area for men but sometimes excision of the excess tissue is also needed.
Ideal Candidates
Gynecomastia is common in men of any age. It can be caused by hormonal changes, heredity or sometimes disease. Enlarged breasts for men may also cause emotional discomfort and reducing the size and improving the shape can help increase self-confidence.
How It’s Done
The two common techniques used to correct gynecomastia are liposuction and excision. Sometimes Dr. Platis will use both methods to achieve the best contour for the chest area. With both procedures the most minimal incision possible is made and the excess tissue and or fat is removed.
Results and Recovery
Although there is some swelling postoperatively the new contour will be apparent immediately. A compressive garment should be worn for the first few weeks while you are healing and the swelling is subsiding. Most patients return to work within a few days and normal activity within a few weeks.
